This Week In Doctor Who - July 13, 2005
(posted 13th Jul 2005, 11:31am - TWIDW post #0322)
THIS WEEK IN DOCTOR WHO - 7 Years And Counting
July 13, 2005 - Vol 8, No 28
The weekly guide to Doctor Who broadcasts worldwide.
by Benjamin F. Elliott
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/thisweekindoctorwho
Thurday 14 July:
Prime TV New Zealand - 7:30PM - Doctor Who: The End Of The World
Saturday 16 July:
ABC Australia - 7:30PM - Doctor Who: The Empty Child
Sunday 17 July:
BBC Three 7PM - Doctor Who: Rose (repeat)
CBC - 7PM - Doctor Who: World War Three (repeat)
BBC Three 7:45PM - Doctor Who Confidential Cut Down: Back From The Future (repeat)
KBS 2 South Korea - 11:15PM - Doctor Who: The Parting of the Ways
New Zealand Ratings:
7 July 7:30PM Rose - 151,000 viewers
Sweden - SVT http://www.svt.se has purchased Doctor Who. Based on on- air comments during a Christopher Eccleston movie, it is believed that the show will air Thursdays at 8PM in early 2006. It is unclear if it will be SVT 1 or SVT 2.
New Zealand - Doctor Who got very good ratings for Prime
http://www.primetv.co.nz on its premiere night. The episode aired
cropped to 4:3 fullscreen (not the 14:9 letterbox crop which the
show was filmed to accommodate - important information is being cut
off). The closing credits aired with no voiceover, allowing viewers
to hear the music without distraction. The Sunday repeat for Rose
was a one time thing - catch future episodes on Thursdays or you're
out of luck till the DVDs come out.
South Korea - KBS 2 http://www.kbs.co.kr concludes its broadcast of the 2005 Doctor Who series this Sunday at 11:15PM. There will be no second Doctor Who episode that night. It is unknown if repeats will air, or if future series of the show have been purchased.
Russell T. Davies confirmed in a magazine interview that Doctor Who
Confidential http://www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/confidential has been
renewed for a 2nd 13 episode series. This documentary show
frequently led the ratings on non-terrestrial channels, beating UK
premieres for shows like 24 and Enterprise
United Kingdom - The BBC Three http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcthree repeat
season begins this weekend. The most recent schedule update looks
like this:
Sunday 17 July 7PM Rose
Sunday 17 July 7:45PM "Doctor Who Confidential Cut Down episode 1"
Friday 22 July 9PM Rose
Friday 22 July 9:45PM "Doctor Who Confidential Cut Down episode 1"
Sunday 24 July 7PM The End Of The World
Saturday 24 July 7:45PM "Doctor Who Confidential Cut Down episode 2"
Sci-Fi Overdrive's http://www.scifioverdrive.com interview with
Shannon Patrick Sullivan of A Brief History Of Time (Travel)
http://www.physics.mun.ca/~sps/drwho.html may not have aired on the
Lifestyle Talk Radio network - their online archive was for a
different interview when I checked. It did air on the Business Talk
Radio network and is in their archive. It was a review and
conversation about the 2005 series of Doctor Who. If you missed the
broadcast, or it didn't air on your station, click
http://archives.warpradio.com/btr/SciFi/071102.MP3 and tune in. 53
minutes including commercials. LISTENER ADVISORY - while it was a
very good interview (including a slightly mangled quote of mine), it
does have slight spoilers for the first 10 episode of the series,
including the outcome of episode 10 - The Doctor Dances.
BBC Wales has issued press releases hailing their most successful
year ever, led by Doctor Who:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice/pressreleases/stories/2005/07_july/1
3/wales.shtml
http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/info/review_2005/network.shtml
The BBC Press Office http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice and C21 Media
http://www.c21media.net often announce when a Doctor Who
international sale occurs. Worth keeping an eye on, just in case.
This Week In Doctor Who is 7 years old. The first edition went out
July 13, 1998. How times change. Time to stop for a moment and
reflect on 7 crazy years, especially this last one.
Now back to the column.
